Osmar Waller's sketch of Gravity Plan
Title
Osmar Waller's sketch of Gravity Plan
Subject
Irrigation -- Washington (State) -- Columbia River Valley
Description
This is a road map of Washington State with Osmar Waller's notations on a canal system intended to irrigate the Columbia Basin using water from the Pend Oreille River. The route of the canal system, called the Gravity Plan, is drawn in blue crayon. The land to be irrigated by the canals is marked by the blue hatching. Also included are several numbers written in pencil and too small to read from this magnification. These numbers likely represent the elevation along different portions of the canal. Since the plan was to use no pumps, it was vital to maintain a downward sloping grade from beginning to end.
