Title

Negretti and Zambra's New-Years Gifts

Subject

gifts, binoculars, microscopes, telescopes

Description

These gifts are useful and ornamental. The ladie's ivory opera glass is gilt manted with an engraved monogram. The gentlemen's leather-covered field glass has a monogram in piered silver. Mounted in Aluminum, tortoise-shell or Pearl. Negretti and Zambra are scientific instrument makers and opticians to the queen who also create Barometers, Binoculars, Microscopes, Telescopes and Magic Lanterns of every description. This advertisement effectively advertises elegant gifts for the people within the community. It's interesting because it seems to stress the use of such binoculars and telescopes that are used at events, plays, etc. The makers of such gifts go in great detail of the materials used to create the products, trying to fancy the consumers as best they can. It is very interesting because nowadays, we would not see this kind of advertisement for gifts, but rather more materialistic things such as jewelry, clothes, etc.
